One of the most magical experiences awaiting you at Glamping Jardín is the incredible hike to Cueva del Esplendor – and the best part? Your adventure starts right from our front door! No need for expensive transportation or crowded tours; just pack your day pack, grab some snacks, and prepare for one of Colombia’s most breathtaking natural wonders.
The Journey
From Glamping Jardín, the hike begins with a route through the Colombian coffee region. The trail passes farmland with cows, coffee plantations, and traditional houses typical of Antioquia. It’s not just exercise but a direct look into local rural life.
The route to the entrance of the Cueva is about, 2-hrs walking, one way. We reccomend using Maps.me since they have a good offline app. You can find the location of the cueva here!
The gradual climb through the Andean foothills rewards hikers with wide views of valleys and surrounding mountains.
The Destination
At 2,200m lies the Cueva del Esplendor – a cave with a 10m waterfall dropping through an opening in the ceiling. Sunlight filters through, lighting up the spray and creating a dramatic setting.
Why It’s Worth It
Starting from Glamping Jardín makes the hike more than just reaching the cave. The route crosses coffee farms, streams, and pastureland, offering a close-up of real Colombia, away from mass tourism. Along the way you may spot colorful birds, butterflies, and local farmers working their crops.
Getting back / Continuing your journey
After enjoying this spectacular place, there are several ways to return or continue, depending on your legs, the opportunities and weather:
Same way: Hike back to Glamping Jardín along the same trail. The descent is easier and offers another chance to enjoy the beautiful views.
The adventurous route: From the cave, you can hike directly to town. This 3-hour trail passes farmland and cows before reaching a viewpoint overlooking Jardín. We don’t recommend going solo—team up with fellow hikers. Use Maps.me and navigate to this location before navigating to town.
Lucky you: Sometimes, as you return to the entrance, a tour group may be leaving. If you ask politely, you might be able to join them in a jeep heading back to town. ( costs +/- 20.000 per person)
Taxi or TukTuk: They can’t reach the cave entrance, but if you contact a driver before leaving, they will wait at a pickup point about 1 hour from the entrance. They can bring you to town or to the glamping!
Practical Tips:
- Start Early: Begin your hike in the morning to avoid afternoon rains and enjoy the best light for photography
- Pack Smart: Bring plenty of water, snacks, a rain jacket, and comfortable hiking shoes
- Entrance Fee: There’s a small entrance fee to access the cave (around 25,000 COP)
- Difficulty Level: rated as difficult due to the distance and elevation gain, but manageable for anyone with reasonable fitness
- Duration: Plan for a full day – typically 6-8 hours total including time to rest and enjoy the cave
