The Magic of Beekeeping in Jardín, Colombia
Discover the “Tour de las Abejas”

When travelers think of Jardín, Colombia, coffee is often the first thing that comes to mind. Nestled in the heart of the Colombian coffee region, the town is famous for its lush landscapes and rich coffee culture. But there’s another hidden treasure waiting to be discovered: honey and beekeeping.

Just a 30-minute walk from Glamping Jardín, you’ll find Miel del Jardín at Finca la Florida, a family-run farm that offers an immersive and eye-opening bee tour. Surrounded by banana plants, colorful flowers, and rolling coffee fields, the short journey to the finca is an experience in itself. What awaits at the end is even more magical: a hands-on introduction to the incredible world of bees.

A Legacy of Bees: Meet the Rojas Family

Miel del Jardín is a multi-generational beekeeping project run by the Rojas family since 1938. For three generations, they’ve worked in harmony with bees, advocating for their protection and helping to educate both locals and visitors about their importance.

Their philosophy is simple and powerful: More bees means more life. Through their tours, the family hopes to dispel myths and fears about bees, and inspire respect for these essential pollinators—what they call the “silent guardians of the planet.”

What to Expect on the Bee Tour

The Tour de las Abejas lasts between 2 to 3 hours, and it’s packed with learning, hands-on adventure, and a little sweetness at the end. Here’s how it breaks down:

1. Bee 101

You’ll begin with an introduction to different types of bees, their life cycles, and their roles within the hive. You’ll also hear fascinating stories about how bees are viewed in different cultures around the world.

2. Suit Up for Beekeeping

Next, it’s time to don your bright yellow beekeeping suit, rubber boots, and gloves. Then, accompanied by a member of the Rojas family, you’ll walk to the hives. Using gentle smoke to calm the bees, they’ll guide you through safely observing and even holding a hive frame—an unforgettable, up-close encounter with nature.
