It has been asked by many guests, Where did you buy these colorful flags in the social area? Well, we didn’t buy them but they have an emotional value and beautiful story.
30 years ago, Hetty, a good friend of my (Suzan’s) mother moved to Chile with her family. In the years that followed, contact was difficult (there was no internet yet) but the bond remained. When my mother died and Hetty got internet in Chile, we reconected and built a special relationship. Hetty often called me her little sister and for me, besides being a good friend, she was also a connection to my mother.
When, years later, Jamie & I met and Jamie said, I want to go to South America one day, it was not a difficult choice to visit Hetty and her family in Chile. A trip that sparked a love for South America and was somewhere at the root of our emigration. We were lucky enough to have visited her several more times. When we told Hetty we were taking the plunge and wanted to live in Colombia, she suggested to crochet flags for us. An offer we gladly accepted, of course.
Unfortunately, Hetty passed away a few months later and we thought she wasn’t able to make any flags. Until 2 years ago when her son Emilio came to Colombia to help us build the glamping. As it turned out, good friend Jose taught Hetty’s daughter Begoña to crochet and together they turned the flags already made by Hetty into flag lines. So Hetty’s flags with the love of Begoña and Jose now decorate the social area where they give just that little bit of colour that Hetty gave to the lifes of a lot of people.
A few months ago Hetty’s husband Patricio, friend José, her sons and some friends came to visit us. And José brought a big bag with more flags she made. So, if you come to visit us and you see these beautiful colorful flags, now you know this beautiful story about a bunch of beautiful people!
